Mikey Kenney’s ‘Counsel of Owls’ tells a colourful, impressionistic tale of uprooting migration, flighty adventure and the relationship between us and our habitat. The traveller makes a new home every day; a constant coming to terms with his situation. Using folk themes and metaphors, it explores the movement, longing and forced relocation in a terrifyingly vast landscape. It is a story with which both Dublin and Liverpool are so familiar.
Drawing on the concept of Mikey Kenney’s new album, ‘The Counsel of Owls’, the project combines live aerial dance and music presented in beautiful hand crafted costume by designer Nadine Cullen, in an intimate but open environment, within one of Dublin’s green public spaces. Using Mikey’s album as a template for the piece, the band will play 10 songs from the album, accompanied by aerial performances by Emily Aoibheann.
A charming communion between wild owl and passionate fiddle-player, in movement and music, a story of home and homelessness is told.
